    Description

two good news spread through the companies and battalions. First, our long-range artillery opened fire on Berlin today, and the historic assault began. Second: the division moves to the first echelon. The task of the day: to capture the settlement of Pretzel and come close to the German capital. Fatigue after the recent battles was still making itself felt, but no one thought about rest. It is unlikely that in the combat history of the regiment, and indeed of the entire division, there was another such impetuous march, like the one that we did on the eve of the start of the assault on Berlin. On the way, we learned that our 3rd shock, together with other armies of the 1st Belorussian Front, had been tasked with delivering the last decisive blow to the enemy and hoisting the Victory Banner over Berlin. It has become the dream of every soldier, officer and general to accomplish this very honorable task. "
Klochkov I.F. "We stormed the Reichstag"
(commander of a fire platoon of artillery of the 469th rifle regiment of the 3rd shock
army of the 1st Belorussian Front)
